100% Nerello Mascalese
Vigneti Vecchio is a family-run winery located at around 800m above sea level on the
northern slopes of Mount Etna. Established in 2016 by Carmelo Vecchio and his wife
Rosa La Guzza, the estate is deeply rooted in the region's winemaking tradition.
Carmelo and Rosa are committed to organic farming practices and minimal
intervention winemaking. Their approach emphasizes respect for the land, tradition,
and simplicity in vinification. This philosophy allows the unique characteristics of
Etna's terroir to be expressed authentically in their wines.
From vines averaging 75 years old, the Nerello Mascalese grapes undergo manual
harvesting, followed by destemming and a 14-day carbonic maceration.
Fermentation occurs partly in stainless steel and partly in tonneaux (600-liter French
oak barrels).
Contrada Malpasso Etna Rosso offers a compelling taste of Mount Etna's rich
viticultural heritage, combining traditional winemaking techniques with the distinctive
characteristics of this unique volcanic terroir.
Tasting notes: Raspberry, almond paste, liquorice, and hints of dried herbs and
spice. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with ripe red fruit flavors, supported by
robust, stony tannins.
Food Pairing: Enjoy with a bowl of pasta with Venison or Wild Boar Ragu. Also pairs
well with cured meats such as Coppa or Finocchiona.
