How much cheese should I buy?

We recommend 100-150g of cheese and 80-100g of charcuterie per person for a cheese board. Our team can provide personalized recommendations, contact us at info@provisionslondon.co.uk.

How should I store my cheese?

Cheese is wrapped in waxed paper to maintain humidity while allowing it to breathe. Some cheeses, like Camembert or Mont d’Or, are kept in their original packaging.

For optimal storage, keep your cut cheese in the fridge to slow down mold growth. We recommend placing the cheese inside a container or box. This helps prevent it from absorbing other aromas from the fridge.

If you have any questions about specific cheeses, feel free to ask us in-store or via email at info@provisionslondon.co.uk.

How long does cheese last?

  • Hard cheeses (Comté, Cheddar,..): 10 days to 2 weeks after opening.
  • Soft & blue cheeses (Brie, Stilton,..): Best consumed within 7 days.

Can I eat the rind?

  • Soft cheeses (Brie, Camembert,..): The bloomy rind is edible.
  • Hard cheeses (Comté, Gruyère,..): The rind is often tough and discarded but can be eaten.
  • Blue cheeses (Bleu d’Auvergne, Blu di Capra,..): The rind can occasionally be bitter but is safe to eat.
  • Waxed cheeses (Gouda, Anejo,..): The wax is not edible.

When should I take my cheese out of the fridge before serving?

For the best flavour and texture, take your cheese out of the fridge about 30 to 60 minutes before serving. This allows it to come to room temperature, enhancing its aromas and making the texture softer and more enjoyable !

I’m vegetarian. Can I eat your cheese?

Our selection focuses on traditional raw milk cheeses, which means they are made using old processes and traditional animal rennet. As a result, our cheeses are not suitable for vegetarians. If you have any questions about specific cheeses, feel free to ask us in-store or via email at info@provisionslondon.co.uk.

I’m pregnant. Can I eat your cheese?

Pregnant individuals should be cautious with unpasteurised and soft cheeses due to the risk of listeria. At Provisions, although we are a raw milk cheese specialist and champion artisan production, we offer both pasteurised and unpasteurised cheeses. If you have any questions about specific cheeses, feel free to ask us in-store or via email at info@provisionslondon.co.uk. Consult a healthcare professional for guidance.

What is the difference between pasteurised and unpasteurised milk?

Pasteurised milk has been heat-treated to eliminate bacteria, making it a safer choice for pregnant individuals and those with weakened immune systems. Unpasteurised milk retains its natural bacteria and enzymes, which can contribute to a more complex and traditional cheese flavour. Many artisan cheeses are made from unpasteurised milk to preserve their unique characteristics.

Do you accommodate special dietary considerations?

If you have specific allergens or dietary restrictions, please specify them during checkout, and we will do our best to accommodate your request. For Hampers orders, we can replace allergenic ingredients or meat/fish products with an equivalent substitute of similar value. If you have further questions, feel free to reach out to us at info@provisionslondon.co.uk.

Where does your cured meat come from?

Our cured meats are sourced from small-scale producers in Italy and France, who use traditional methods and high-quality ingredients.

Do your cured meats contain additives/preservatives?

Many of our cured meats are made using natural curing methods with minimal additives. Some may contain nitrates/nitrites to ensure food safety and preservation. If you have specific dietary requirements, feel free to ask us for more details in-store or via email at info@provisionslondon.co.uk.

Should I remove the casing before eating?

It depends on the product. All our cured meats have natural casings, which are edible but can be removed if preferred. Some may have a firmer texture, so feel free to peel them off for a smoother eating experience.

What’s the white mould on my cured meat? Is it safe?

The white mould on the surface of cured meats like salami is completely natural and helps with the aging process. It protects the meat and enhances its flavour!

How should I store my meat?

Most cured meats should be kept in the fridge, ideally wrapped in our paper or a breathable cloth to avoid excess moisture. Whole salami can sometimes be stored in a cool, dry place. Always check individual product recommendations.

What’s the best way to serve cured meats?

For the best flavour, remove cured meats from the fridge 15-30 minutes before serving to let them come to room temperature. Pair with cheese, bread, and wine for an authentic tasting experience!

Can I eat cured meats if I'm pregnant?

Cured meats are traditionally raw but preserved, so some health professionals advise against consuming them during pregnancy due to the risk of listeria or toxoplasmosis. Always check with your healthcare provider.

Yes, we can offer whole legs of ham and large cured meat pieces for slicing at home. Contact us at info@provisionslondon.co.uk if you’re looking for a specific size or cut!
