100% Nebbiolo
Sfera is short for ‘atmosphere’ in Italian, and they are on a mission to bring 'cosmic verve in a litre bottle from the Alps to the Mediterranean'. They work with a roster of certified-organic growers across Italy, making fun wines that are an Italian take on the easy-drinking 'vin de soif' of France. Each cuvée is produced on a limited basis and is made entirely from the grapes of a single grower to maintain a relationship between the terroir and wine.
This Rosato (in 750ml format, rather than the 1L you may be familiar with) comes from the Crotin Family. The Crotin family planted their first vines in 1897 in the area of Maretto, in Piedmont. Today, the small estate is still managed by the family; indeed the three brothers Federico, Marcello and Corrado work together in the vineyards and in the cellar. They have been organic since the beginning and they also use some biodynamic techniques in their vineyards. Low intervention and native grapes, as well as salinity, are their distinguished marks. This wine sees 6 hours on skins, and is then aged for 6 months on its fine lees.
