40% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 20% Carignan
Laurent Clapier is one of few growers showing that biodynamic practices can be applied on a larger scale - he has 52 hectares planted with indigenous varieties planted on a mix of clay, limestone and galets roulés, providing characteristic Southern Rhone warmth. Elevage in underground limestone caves help give character and typicity across Laurent’s cuvées, with whites and reds sharing a distinct herbaceousness.
P’tit Gaby is a very drinkable Rhone with plenty of savoury, spice character, but none of the jammy, tobacco stuff associated with the region. Light in body, with freshness and lift brought by the Carignan. Due to the small yields of 2018, all the grapes were harvested at exactly the right time, making it a great vintage. Harvest also stops at 10am to retain freshness and acidity.
Tasting notes : Herbaceous nose with eucalyptus, nettle and mint. Roasted fruit, red plum, savoury with some clove spice. Bright and fruit forward.
Food pairings : Anything on a charcoal grill ! Burnt Italian Violette aubergine with tahini and mint. Great with a saucisson plate.
