85% Tempranillo, 15% Merlot 

A wine made in one of Europe's most extreme climates. Located just outside the Bardenas Reales desert, Azul y Garanza's vineyards grow in extremely dry conditions. This slows the growth of the vine and forces its energies into ripening the best grapes possible. Hot days followed by cold nights allow the grapes to ripen while retaining lots of fresh acidity. 

The grapes are fermented in large concrete vats before being aged, again in concrete, for nine months. The result is a wine that is finely balanced between richness and freshness. The wine is lightly filtered before bottling. 

Abril means "April" in Spanish, named for the month when the vines come alive and flower after a long winter dormancy. 

Tasting notes : Blackberries, black cherries, savoury spice. Medium-bodied with a nice bit of tannin.

Food pairing : A versatile wine that would work well with our Smoked Duck rillettes, a baked pasta dish, or even a burger !
