Chartogne Taillet - St Anne NV Brut - Champagne, France

Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier

Based in the village of Merfy in the Vallee de la Marne, Alexandre Chartogne began making wine at the age of 23 and trained under the legendary Anselme Selosse. Merfy used to be a prestigious part of the region before most of the vines were destroyed during the First World War.

This is a powerful Champagne with Pinot Noir making up most of the blend. Alexandre uses reserve wines aged in oak barrels for extra depth and complexity. While many non-vintage Champagnes are quite young, this is a blend of the 2015 and 2016 vintages. The wine spends two years on its lees after secondary fermentation and a further four months in the bottle after disgorgement.

Tasting notes : Citrus, quince, brioche. Rich flavours and textures tempered by fresh, persistent acidity.

Food pairing : Try this with fried chicken or fish and chips.
