Nero d’Avola, Perricone and Cataratto
Sfera is short for ‘atmosphere’ in Italian, and they are on a mission to bring “cosmic verve in a litre bottle from the Alps to the Mediterranean”. They work with a roster of certified-organic growers across Italy, making fun wines that are an Italian take on the easy-drinking 'vin de soif' of France. Each cuvee is produced on a limited basis and is made entirely from the grapes of a single grower to maintain a relationship between the terroir and wine.
Their latest rosso is made with a blend of red and white grapes harvested on the coast near the city of Alcamo on the northern side of Sicily. These grapes are pressed and fermented together - a process which harkens back to a time when winemakers didn't think much about what kind of grapes they were harvesting.
Tasting notes : Raspberries, cranberries, strawberries. Fresh with very little tannin. Perfect for chilling.
Food pairing : Serve this alongside anchovies and piles of salty Parma ham. A great one to take along to a Turkish restaurant !
