Mourvèdre, Picpoul
Nicolas Renaud worked as a history teacher before his enthusiasm and curiosity drew him to full-time winemaking. He started out making wine at Vielle Julienne in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 2005, and during his time there began to recent his own vines in Rochefort, near Gard in the Southern Rhône. His current estate, Clos Des Grillons, was established in 2008. Nicolas is a neighbour and friend of Eric Pfifferling from L’Anglore, who has been a big inspiration to his approach in the cellar.
This is a super light red, you’d be forgiven for saying rosé ! An extremely fun and unusual blend of Mourvedre and Picpoul. Half carbonic and half direct press, then 6 months in stainless steel. A truly unique wine with great depth and length, showing everything from savoury spice to summer fruits, with some real zip from the Picpoul. A Provisions staff favourite !
Tasting notes : Apricot, tangerine, spice, dried herbs, ripe citrus, watermelon
Food pairing : Limitless possibilities here ! If you’re in our area then fried chicken or cauliflower and Gado Gado salad from our Malaysian neighbours Sambal Shiok.
