Marcel Lapierre - Morgon '21 - Beaujolais, France

100% Gamay

Beaujolais continues to be associated with the pale, fruity, bubblegum bomb Beaujolais Nouveau. But the region has long been producing concentrated but elegant red wine made from Gamay. Domaine Lapierre was founded at the beginning of the 20th century and has been family run ever since. In 1973, Marcel Lapierre took the Domaine over from his father and, in 1981, converted it to biodynamic practices, becoming one of the first French winemakers to do so.

This wine is made from grapes grown on 60-year old vines. Vinification takes place in old Burgundy vats and this wine is aged for ten months to soften its tannin and develop flavour complexity.

Tasting notes : strawberry, raspberry, floral. Moderate tannins and a textured palate with a nice touch of freshness. Just beginning to drink, but will go on ageing for years to come.

Food pairing : Try with subtle hard cheeses, or barbeque chicken and fresh salad.
