70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay
Barrat-Masson are a small, organic grower-Champagne domaine founded in 2010 by Loïc Barrat and Aurélie Masson in the village of Bethon, in the southern Sézannais area of Champagne. The estate spans about 7 ha, planting mainly Chardonnay with some Pinot Noir, on chalk and clay-limestone soils. From the outset, Loïc and Aurélie have farmed organically. In the cellar, each parcel is vinified separately in stainless steel, barrels, or demi-muids with minimal intervention. Their style is precise, elegant, and expressive, representing the new generation of Sézannais vignerons crafting artisanal, terroir-driven Champagnes.
This rosé cuvée comes from vines averaging 40 years old, planted on chalky soils. The wine sees 55% barrel vinification, with the rest in stainless steel, spending 9 months on the lees. The wine is then aged in barrel for 18 months. Compared to some of Barrat-Masson’s more terroir-pure blanc de blancs or heavier barrel-aged cuvées, La Jancélie is more approachable, with notes of red berry, a slight bitterness with roundness and sun-kissed fruit from the Chardonnay. The perfect celebration Champagne!
