100% Verdeca
Sfera is short for ‘atmosphere’ in Italian, and they are on a mission to bring 'cosmic verve in a litre bottle from the Alps to the Mediterranean'. They work with a roster of certified-organic growers across Italy, making fun wines that are an Italian take on the easy-drinking 'vin de soif' of France. Each cuvée is produced on a limited basis and is made entirely from the grapes of a single grower to maintain a relationship between the terroir and wine.
Their latest macerato is made from Verdeca grapes grown in Acquaviva delle Fonti, a town due south of Bari in Puglia. Despite the baking heat, the wine is fantastically fresh thanks to cool clay soils and a little bit of altitude. The wine spends 14 days macerating on its skins - despite this it has retained a pale colour and has very little noticeable tannin.
Tasting notes : Elderflower, Honeysuckle, Citrus zest. Fresh and light with very little tannin.
Food pairing : Serve this alongside olive oil crisps and some slices of Parma Ham. Ideally in the park, but a great one to take along to a Turkish restaurant.
