Grenache
Tavel, nestled on the west bank of the Southern Rhône Valley was once one of France's most prestigious winemaking regions. The arrival of phylloxera in the 1860s devastated the region, however, and it has struggled ever since. Nonetheless, the region is now home to many small farmers like Christian and Nadia who tend small plots of old, gnarled bush vines.
Cerisier du Japon is a true zero-zero wine. It is made from vines an average of 60 years old which are grown without the use of any copper sulphate sprays, relying on essential oils, herbal infusions and a tiny bit of sulphur to keep disease at bay. They don't fine and filter their wines, nor do they add any sulphur dioxide, relying instead on 2 years of ageing in tanks to ensure stability.
Tasting notes : Strawberry laces, white pepper, cloves. Medium-bodied with soft tannins.
Food pairing : Try with some Duck rilettes on toasted bread !
