Sardinia isn’t on most people’s radars when it comes to juicy, natural wine but the Nibaru shows that it definitely should be! The Alberto Loi estate was founded in the 1940s by a family of wine merchants. Today the estate is in the hands of the 3rd generation who make wine in Ogliastra on the south of the island.

This wine is made from 100% Monica di Sardegna, also known as Cannonau. It was originally brought to Sardinia by the Spanish in the 14th century. The wine is named Nibaru after the local bushes (also known as spaccasassi) which cover the region’s rocky hillsides.

Tasting notes : Red cherries, floral, herbaceous. Careful balance of richness and freshness with moderate tannins.

Food pairing : Great with some aged Pecorino.
