Banon is a unique and exquisite French cheese hailing from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. This cheese is celebrated for its distinctive appearance, complex flavors, and centuries-old tradition.

Banon is a raw-goat's milk cheese, and what sets it apart is the way it is prepared and presented. It is typically small in size and wrapped in chestnut leaves, which contribute a unique aroma and flavor. This wrapping also adds to the cheese's rustic and visually appealing charm. Banon has an AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) label and is one of the smallest, with only 15 producers.

The cheese itself is soft and creamy, with a luscious texture that practically melts in your mouth. Its flavor profile offers a delightful balance of mild acidity from the goat's milk and earthy, woodsy notes from the chestnut leaves. As it matures, Banon develops more complex flavors, making it a delicacy that evolves over time.

Banon is often enjoyed as a whole, with the leaves and cheese together. It pairs wonderfully with crusty bread or complements fresh fruits, nuts, and honey for a gourmet experience. The combination of flavors and textures creates a sensory journey that captures the essence of Provence and its rich culinary heritage.

This is definitely one of our stronger-flavoured goat's cheeses.

Pair with a classic Provencal Rosé from Bandol or a light Grenache such as the Domain Padié Tourbillon Rouge.
