Emile & Rose - La Douceur - Languedoc, France

£24.00

100% Carignan Blanc

Back in the 1930s, Coteaux de Béziers produced the most wine of any region in France and, as a result, in the world. It wasn't any good mind you, the wine was mass-produced to supply French workers and soldiers, who were entitled to a litre of wine a day by law. Since then the region has come a long way since then thanks to small producers like Marc and Anne-Laure Royo who run Domaine d’Emile & Rose.

This wine is made from Carignan Blanc, an unusual and rarely seen grape outside (and even inside) the Languedoc. The grapes are harvested later than usual allowing them to ripen further and accumulate more sugar, resulting in a gently sweet wine.

Tasting notes : Pineapple, passionfruit, floral. Off-dry with lovely acidity.

Food pairing : Great with powerful blue cheeses like Roquefort or Blu di Nicoletta or fruit-based desserts like pavlova and Eton Mess. Perfect for dishes with a bit of spice !
