Lo Sfuso di Collina. Monteforche, Veneto, Italy (Red)
Predominantly Cabernet Franc blended with a number of native grape varieties. Grapes spend a couple of weeks before being aged in cement for a year. Keep an eye out for a little spritz on opening. Lots of pepper on the nose and a dark fruity palate. A seriously fun wine.
Weninger, Ponzichter. Sopron, Hungary (Red)
Ponzichter was the name given to the German speaking minority of wine growers in the Sopron region of Hungary. This wine is a blend of Pinot Noir and Zweigelt, produced faithfully with biodynamic practices. A beautiful light and fruit forward red wine. If the weather allows maybe even pop it in the fridge before serving.
Gemeaux 2016, Mas Theo. Rhone, France (Red)
Mas Theo is a biodynamic grower located in the Drom Provencale, the northernmost extremity of the Southern Rhone. A blend of carignan and Mouvedre aged in an enormous limestone quarry called the caves cathedrales. Deliciously herbal, with meaty fruit, violets and game.
Sables Fauves 2013, Tour Blanc. Landes, France. (White)
Located in South West France, Tour Blanc is an old Armagnac vineyard where Philip and Sandra also farm sheep. 100% Ugni Blanc hand-harvested, macerated for 24 hours and pressed slowly. Only native yeasts are used and the wine is aged for 3 years on the lees, producing a wine that is fine, light, aromatic and herbal.
Masieri Bianco 2018, Angiolino Maule. Veneto, Italy. (Orange)
Founded in 1988, before dedicating themselves to viticulture Angiolino and Rosmaria spent twelve years making pizza. Made with the Garganega grape variety, pale yellow in appearance, completely unfiltered and unfined. Bright acidity in the mouth, followed by notes of green apple, hay and ripe grapes.
Baglio Bianco 2019, Ciello. Sicily, Italy. (Orange)
Skin contact Catarrato from Sicily, perfect entry into the world of ‘orange’ wines. Very dry on the palate but with a richness gleaned from 3 weeks ‘on the skins’.
Cheeses to enjoy with these wines:
Ossau Iraty, Pyrenees, France. (Sheep's Milk, Unapasturised)
Only made from the milk of red and black head sheep, both native Basque breeds. With production limited to between November and August. A hard cheese with a distinctive herbaceous, nutty and fruity flavour would compliment perfectly the skin contact/orange wines in our selection.
24 Month Comte, Jura, France. (Cow’s Milk, Unpasturised).
A world famous French cheese and one of the first to gain AOC status in 1958. Aged for 24 Months producing a rich and salty cheese with a little crunch, that compliments well with both the fuller red wines in our selection and the richer aromatic white.
Chaource, Champagne. France (Cow’s Milk, Unpasturised).
A soft creamy cow’s milk cheese with a tangy fresh taste and beautiful butteriness around the rind. It pairs perfectly with the lighter fruitier red wines in our selection.
