Mas du Chêne - Sangiovese 2018 - Nîmes, France

100% Sangiovese

Situated between Nîmes and Arles, the Mas du Chene vineyards cover some 40 hectares, 15 of which they work organically for Mas du Chêne. The rest of the fruit is sold to the local co-op. The terroir is composed of galets roulés over stoney soils which offer good drainage and healthiness in the vineyard.

Sangiovese is an Italian grape and is best known for making Chianti. 10 years' ago they planted a tiny amount of Sangiovese, about half a hectare, from which this wine is made. The grapes are destemmed and vinified in concrete vats. The juice is then run off into barrels where it stays for 10 months.

Tasting notes: sour cherry, blackberry, dried herbs. Medium-full bodied with bright acidity to balance some rich tannins.  

Food pairing: A food friendly wine, great with rich tomato sauces or vegetable dishes, grilled meats and charcuterie.
