Fleurie-Poncie Magnum 2018- Du Grappin- Beajolais, France

100% Gamay

Based in the village of Beaune, Du Grappin (Andrew and Emma Nielsen), are negociant winemakers who buy their grapes from 'passionate and revolutionary growers in under-rated Macconais, Beaujolais and Rhone regions'. They produce archetypal vin de soif wines produced to be delicious, fun and refreshing.

This wine comes from old vines located at the very top of Haut-Poncie, soils are poor and the fruit is late ripening, producing an elegant and aromatic wine. Grapes are hand harvested,  then placed in concrete vats for fermentation aromatique- fermentation without any S02, pump overs or punch downs. After fermentation the juice is aged for 8 months in large old oak barrels. Unfined, unfiltered with a touch of sulphur added at bottling.

Tasting Notes: Strawberry, raspberry, floral. A delightfully light-bodied red wine with a touch of tannin and a textured palate.

Food pairing: pates, terrines, rillettes, saucisson sec.
