Bencze Birtok - Autochthon 2019 - Badacsony, Hungary

Just because you can't pronounce the grapes, doesn't mean the wine isn't delicious! Badacsony lies in the west of Hungary, near the border with Austria and Slovenia. István Bencze recognised the potential of the region and planted vines on the shore of the Tapolca Basin, down the sides steep, south-facing slopes. The lake helps moderate the temperature and retains warmth later into the year while the slopes catch the sunlight throughout the day, both helping to fully ripen his grapes.

The wine is made from biodynamically farmed vines in the cooler, lower-lying areas of the vineyard to help ensure the wine’s freshness. Some of the grapes are fermented as whole bunches and the wine is then aged in clay amphora of various shapes and sizes for nine months. 

Tasting notes: Fresh lime and a touch salty, like a shot of a Tequila! 

Food pairing: This will be great with salads, white fish, and fresh goat's cheese.
